Ah, February, the month of love. Hopefully you’ve had a chance to reflect on those in your life whom you love. There are a lot of ways to show care to those we love. Some of my favorite role models are those who show love and thoughtfulness through adversity.

Maya Angelou is one of those people. Her poems demonstrate strength, love and wisdom beyond the tough circumstances which were a part of her life from birth to at least midlife. Though most of us may never go through hardships like extreme poverty and abuse, we can learn from the wisdom and experience that she passed on in her writings.

One entrepreneur that I like to follow, in regards to his philosophy, is Elon Musk, founder of PayPal and now at the helm of Tesla Motors and SpaceX. His thoughtfulness in business is inspirational. He finds ways to completely change industries. His success is a good reminder to add heart to what we do for a living and make the environment around us better.

Another model of successful business ownership paired with deep love for others is Oprah Winfrey. She came from a childhood of extreme poverty. Though she has faced adversity, she sticks to her personal code of ethics and works hard doing the things she loves while making a difference. She has grown a business without sacrificing the element of relationship. Thoughtfulness about our goals and how those fit with the world around us can bring great success.

With CPM, one of my biggest goals has been to mix relationships with people and thoughtfulness in business. This means having strong ethics and in transactions, remembering that each person has value. The property management industry at times can be trying and difficult, but I believe thoughtfulness and love need to be at the heart of every interaction and decision. The values of CPM intentionally echo this: good stewardship, follow through, and honor. Our values are not meant to be distant goals, but rather the core of everything we do for you, our clients.

Have a great rest of your month, be thoughtful of those around you, and remember those you love.

Lift up your eyes
Upon this day breaking for you
Give birth again
To the dream
